Dow drops 184 points on losses in shares of Travelers, Walmart

Behind negative returns for shares of Travelers and Walmart, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is down Friday afternoon.

Shares of Travelers TRV, -2.57% and Walmart WMT, -1.61% have contributed to the index’s intraday decline, as the Dow DJIA, -0.47% was most recently trading 184 points (0.5%) lower. Travelers’s shares have fallen $3.89, or 2.3%, while those of Walmart have fallen $2.71 (1.7%), combining for a roughly 44-point drag on the Dow. Other components contributing significantly to the decline include Chevron CVX, -1.15%, Merck MRK, -1.29%, and Caterpillar CAT, -1.17%. A $1 move in any of the index’s 30 components equates to a 6.59-point swing.
