Verizon Pours Almost $100 Million into Texas Investments

Verizon is pouring $97.9 million into investments in Texas, including a major network upgrade in Austin as the New York-based cell carrier tries to keep up with population growth in the city.

The company said its upgrades are going toward new cell sites, expanded capacity and upgraded fiber.

The investments, which are just a small portion of Verizon’s typical annual capital investments, reflect an expanded push by Verizon into Texas, the home state of rival AT&T, which is based in Dallas.

“Our teams are committed in Austin and across Texas, where we’re seeing tremendous growth, to out-work our competitors every day in order to meet our promise to our customers,” said Phillip French, Verizon’s vice president of engineering and operations.
