It hasn’t been the best quarter for Lumen Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:LUMN) shareholders, since the share price has fallen 27% in that time. But that doesn’t detract from the splendid returns of the last year. We’re very pleased to report the share price shot up 183% in that time. So some might not be surprised to see the price retrace some. Only time will tell if there is still too much optimism currently reflected in the share price.
The past week has proven to be lucrative for Lumen Technologies investors, so let’s see if fundamentals drove the company’s one-year performance.
Given that Lumen Technologies didn’t make a profit in the last twelve months, we’ll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. When a company doesn’t make profits, we’d generally hope to see good revenue growth. That’s because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.
In the last year Lumen Technologies saw its revenue shrink by 10.0%. So we would not have expected the share price to rise 183%. It just goes to show the market doesn’t always pay attention to the reported numbers. Of course, it could be that the market expected this revenue drop.

We like that insiders have been buying shares in the last twelve months. Even so, future earnings will be far more important to whether current shareholders make money. This free report showing analyst forecasts should help you form a view on Lumen Technologies
A Different Perspective
It’s nice to see that Lumen Technologies shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 183% over the last year. There’s no doubt those recent returns are much better than the TSR loss of 8% per year over five years. The long term loss makes us cautious, but the short term TSR gain certainly hints at a brighter future. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. For example, we’ve discovered 2 warning signs for Lumen Technologies (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
