Bank of New York Mellon Corp. stock rises Thursday, still underperforms market

Shares of Bank of New York Mellon Corp. BK, +0.44% inched 0.44% higher to $55.36 Thursday, on what proved to be an all-around great trading session for the stock market, with the S&P 500 Index SPX, +2.11% rising 2.11% to 5,087.03 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +1.18% rising 1.18% to 39,069.11.

This was the stock’s second consecutive day of gains.

Bank of New York Mellon Corp. closed $1.07 short of its 52-week high ($56.43), which the company achieved on January 31st.

The stock underperformed when compared to some of its competitors Thursday, as JPMorgan Chase & Co. JPM, +1.20% rose 1.20% to $183.07, Wells Fargo & Co. WFC, +1.35% rose 1.35% to $53.37, and Morgan Stanley MS, +0.46% rose 0.46% to $85.85.

Trading volume (3.0 M) remained 1.1 million below its 50-day average volume of 4.1 M.
