Caterpillar, Verizon share gains contribute to Dow’s 175-point climb

Shares of Caterpillar and Verizon are trading higher Tuesday afternoon, propelling the Dow Jones Industrial Average into positive territory.

Shares of Caterpillar CAT, +1.36% and Verizon VZ, +2.19% are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday rally, as the Dow DJIA, +0.11% is trading 176 points higher (0.5%). Caterpillar’s shares have climbed $4.88, or 2.0%, while those of Verizon have risen $0.75 (2.0%), combining for an approximately 37-point bump for the Dow. Salesforce CRM, +0.94%, Nike NKE, +1.13%, and Boeing BA, +0.18% are also contributing significantly to the gain. A $1 move in any of the benchmark’s 30 components equates to a 6.59-point swing.
