Behind declines for shares of Dow Inc. and Caterpillar, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is falling Monday afternoon.
The Dow DJIA, -0.36% was most recently trading 180 points (0.5%) lower, as shares of Dow Inc. DOW, -1.61% and Caterpillar CAT, -1.75% are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday decline. Dow Inc.’s shares have dropped $1.43, or 2.0%, while those of Caterpillar are off $4.55, or 1.9%, combining for an approximately 39-point drag on the Dow. UnitedHealth UNH, -1.33%, Merck MRK, -1.77%, and Travelers TRV, -1.40% are also contributing significantly to the decline. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the benchmark results in a 6.58-point swing.
