Trudeau Says Canada is Preparing for ‘Disruptions’ After U.S. Election

President Donald Trump has declined to commit to a peaceful transfer of power should he lose the election next month.

CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER Justin Trudeau said Thursday that Canada is preparing for possible “disruptions” if the U.S. faces a disputed election next month.

Speaking to reporters in Ottawa, Trudeau said what happens in the U.S. will certainly impact Canada, “but our job is to be ready for all outcomes,” adding that he wouldn’t “comment or weigh in on American political processes.”

“We’re certainly all hoping for a smooth transition or a clear result from the election, like many people are around the world,” Trudeau said, as reported by Bloomberg. “If it is less clear, there may be some disruptions and we need to be ready for any outcomes. I think that’s what Canadians would expect of their governments and we’re certainly reflecting on that.”
