Take advantage of a stock market now focused on short-term catalysts, not long-term problems

Shares of Wynn Resorts Ltd. WYNN, -2.09% rallied 3.15% to $59.51 Tuesday, on what proved to be an all-around rough trading session for the stock market, with the S&P 500 Index SPX, 0.29% falling 2.01% to 3,821.55 and Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, 0.52% falling 1.56% to 30,946.99. Wynn Resorts Ltd. closed $65.66 below its 52-week high ($125.17), which the company reached on June 30th.

Oil futures moved higher early Wednesday, with concerns about tight supplies continuing to provide support, analysts said.

General Mills Inc. GIS, 5.37% posted fourth-quarter net income of $822.8 million, or $1.35 per share, nearly double $416.8 million, or 68 cents per share, last year.

Mizuho analyst Vijay Rakesh became little less bullish on electric vehicle makers Tesla Inc. TSLA, -0.32%, Rivian Automotive Inc. RIVN, -3.59% and China-based NIO Inc. NIO, -4.69% on Monday, citing the negative effects of continued COVID-19-related Shanghai shutdowns and supply chain constraints.

Shares of UnitedHealth Group Inc. UNH, +2.02% surged 2.8% in afternoon trading Monday, enough to pace the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s DJIA, -0.20% gainers, and to put them on track for a two-month high.
